PPE - Personal Protective Equipment

August 10th, 2009

Wearing Personal Protective Equipment PPE is not enough!

Most people think that if you wear fall protection / PPE you are safe. If you don't wear your PPE properly, it can cause more harm than help. Injuries can occur if your harness leg straps are not tight enough or if your harness chest connector is too low.

Make it a habit to ensure that your PPE equipment is installed correctly each time you use it:

Once you have fallen, you don't get a second chance to have your equipment installed properly. Make it a habit to ensure that your PPE equipment is installed correctly each time you put it on. Go through an installation check list every time you use your PPE will reduce the chance of injury during a fall.

PPE Safety Check List:

  1. Ensure the harness is free from cuts, burns, and the D-Rings are not rusted or damaged.
  2. Leg straps are 2 fingers tight around the legs.
  3. Chest connector is about nipple height. (If it's to high you could break your jaw, and too low will increase chances of coming out of harness)
